About New Milford Commission on the Arts

The New Milford Commission on the Arts was established by ordinance in 1977. Its mission is to support and encourage the development and appreciation of artistic and cultural experiences in the Town. Experiences include but are not limited to music, theater, dance, film, literature, and visual arts such as painting, sculpture, photography, and architecture. The Commission coordinates or contracts with individuals or organizations to sponsor, fund, or originate cultural and artistic activities. The Commission sponsors annual events of its own but it also funds or contributes to the funding of events by other New Milford Arts Organizations.

The Commission is a volunteer organization that maintains monthly meetings that are open to the general public. Agendas and minutes of these meetings are held on file in the New Milford Town Clerk’s Office and can be accessed online.

Annual Events

Events sponsored by the New Milford Arts Commission are:

Arts Festival

In 2023, the Arts Commission revived the New Milford Arts Festival on the Town Green. The 2025 Festival on June 28 will again feature fine artists, some artisans, and performances by local dance, music, and theater groups.

Concerts on the Green

The Edwin Kinkade Concerts on the Green is a free music series held every Saturday evening at 7 p.m. during the month of August. Residents are invited to gather around our historic bandstand with blankets and lawn chairs.

Gallery 25 and Creative Arts Studio

Gallery 25 and Creative Arts Studio is sponsored by the New Milford Commission on the Arts. Its mission is to provide a friendly space to display and sell remarkable works of fine art and unique handmade artisan creations; to stimulate interaction and cultural exchange throughout western Connecticut and with other arts organizations and schools; to educate through programs and presentations; and to foster interest and appreciation for the creative arts within the greater New Milford community. All this happens in an atmosphere that fosters support and cooperation among its members.
