About Us
About New Milford Commission on the Arts
The New Milford Commission on the Arts was established by ordinance in 1977. Its mission is to support and encourage the development and appreciation of artistic and cultural experiences in the Town. Experiences include but are not limited to music, theater, dance, film, literature, and visual arts such as painting, sculpture, photography, and architecture. The Commission coordinates or contracts with individuals or organizations to sponsor, fund, or originate cultural and artistic activities. The Commission sponsors annual events of its own but it also funds or contributes to the funding of events by other New Milford Arts Organizations.
The Commission is a volunteer organization that holds meetings on the second Wednesday of each month. Our meetings are open to the public. Agendas and minutes of these meetings are held on file in the New Milford Town Clerk’s Office and can be accessed online, per the Freedom of Information Act. We partner with Fairfield County’s Cultural Alliance and Litchfield County’s Northwest Connecticut Council on the Arts.
